A couple aged 20 and 21 was arrested in Leiria this week on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a 73-year-old man in the Parceiros area last May.
In a statement to Notícias ao Minuto, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) revealed that the crime occurred on May 11, when the suspects—a man and a woman—robbed the 73-year-old victim under the threat of a firearm.
The suspects, who were acquainted with the elderly man and had even lived in the same house as him, lured him to a remote location with what investigators described as “a sexual proposal involving the female suspect.”
The elderly man was beaten, resulting in four broken ribs.
Before fleeing, the suspects took various items from the man, as well as money and a bank card, which they used for several cash withdrawals and payments.
After months of investigation, the PJ located, identified, and arrested the suspects, while also gathering “a significant amount of evidence.”
The detainees will now face their first judicial interrogation to determine the appropriate preventive measures.
