A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering another man, whose identity remains unknown, in an open area near Estrada Militar in Queijas, Oeiras, on November 23.
The crime took place at a location where both the victim and the suspect were living in makeshift housing. The suspect is alleged to have used physical force and a blunt instrument, according to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ) released to the press on Friday.
While it has not been possible to determine the exact motive for the crime, authorities suggested that the circumstances of homelessness and excessive alcohol consumption might have intensified the suspect’s violence towards the victim.
The PJ noted that the elder suspect had a history of violent and aggressive behavior, not only towards the victim but also towards others contacted by the authorities.
The man is scheduled to appear before a judicial inquiry at the Criminal Investigation Court of Lisbon West – Cascais for the imposition of preventive measures.
