An elderly man, missing since June 13 in the Valença region, was located by the Portuguese National Republican Guard (GNR) on June 15, with assistance from a drone.
In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto, officials stated that the 75-year-old man was found following several police operations, utilizing “a drone” from the Territorial Command of Viana do Castelo and canine units from the Territorial Command of Porto.
During the search, the drone located the man in an abandoned construction area with tall vegetation, approximately 50 meters from his residence.
After receiving onsite assistance, he was taken to a hospital for “assessment of his health condition.”
The GNR highlighted the success of the mission, which “preserved a human life,” attributing it to “the deployment of various resources and specialties, notably the canine units and unmanned aircraft (UAVs).”
