An 83-year-old man was assisted this Wednesday after feeling unwell while bathing at Monta Rota beach in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.
In a statement, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported that the alert was given around 9:30 AM today “through the lifeguard on duty at the beach,” who informed that “a man had felt unwell in the water.”
Members of the ‘SeaWatch’ project, Vila Real de Santo António Firefighters, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) were “immediately activated.”
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the victim had been removed from the water and promptly assisted by lifeguards, who performed resuscitation maneuvers in collaboration with firefighters,” the authority stated.
According to the authority, the elderly man was “removed from the sand” by members of the ‘SeaWatch’ project to the INEM ambulance, “which transported him to a hospital unit.”
