A 72-year-old woman sustained serious injuries on Tuesday morning in Rio Frio, Arcos de Valdevez, after falling into an uncontrolled fire.
Following the fall, according to the Arcos de Valdevez Volunteer Firefighters, the woman suffered facial burns and was transported by helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) to São João Hospital in Porto.
In addition to injuring the woman, the fire caused a forest blaze, which was “quickly tackled by the firefighters.”
The alert for the incident was triggered at 10:58 a.m.
At the scene were five personnel and two vehicles from the Arcos de Valdevez Volunteer Firefighters, two personnel from the Ponte da Barca Firefighters, the INEM helicopter, the Viana do Castelo Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle, and the National Republican Guard (GNR) from Arcos de Valdevez with two personnel and a patrol vehicle.
The GNR recorded the incident.
