A 69-year-old woman was the victim of a purse snatching in front of her home in the city of Guimarães on July 20.
The victim was about to open the door to her residence when she was assaulted, according to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP), sent to the newsrooms this Thursday.
The note stated that the suspect stole a “bag that the victim was carrying over her shoulder.”
The elderly woman sustained injuries “caused both by the force applied by the suspect and by her unsupported fall on the pavement,” it further read.
“Immediately, the PSP carried out inquiries that allowed the identification of the perpetrator, a 21-year-old man,” complemented the authorities.
The young man was named a defendant, having been subjected to identity and residence terms.

It is noted that, according to the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), violent and serious crime increased by 2.6% last year compared to 2023, with 14,385 crimes recorded, while general crime decreased by 4.6%, with 354,878 reports.
The communication specified that the crimes that rose the most were purse snatching (up 8.7%), vehicle theft (up 106.3%), theft in commercial or industrial buildings (up 21.7%), rape (up 9.9%), and robbery of banks or other credit establishments (up 128.6%).
Meanwhile, general crime, recorded by the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Public Security Police (PSP), the Judiciary Police (PJ), the Maritime Police, the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE), the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), and the Military Judiciary Police, totaled 354,878 reports in 2024, 17,117 fewer than in 2023.
