There will be a PS bench meeting on Thursday morning, the first since José Luís Carneiro was elected as the new secretary-general of the party.
Eurico Brilhante Dias will become the next parliamentary leader of the PS, while Mariana Vieira da Silva and Marina Gonçalves will continue in leadership roles within the bench.
The leadership list, obtained by Lusa, led by Eurico Brilhante Dias, includes figures from the previous leadership such as António Mendonça Mendes, João Torres, Mariana Vieira da Silva, Marina Gonçalves, Pedro Delgado Alves, Luís Graça, and Ana Paula Bernardo.
New names in the future leadership of the socialist bench include Pedro Sousa, Porfírio Silva, Rui Santos, Júlia Rodrigues, and Luís Testa.
When asked about this choice, prior to this weekend’s direct elections where he was the sole candidate for PS leadership, José Luís Carneiro praised Brilhante Dias’s “political experience,” acknowledging his capacity “to build bridges” between the party’s various factions.
With the beginning of the new legislature and before the elections are held, Pedro Delgado Alves has temporarily assumed the role of PS parliamentary leader.
