“The definition of corruption among Portuguese citizens is quite broad. Certain behaviors and practices do not concern them. Practices like revolving doors, conflicts of interest, or favoritism are considered normal and understandable by many. There is a degree of tolerance for certain types of political corruption.

People desire stability and peace of mind as they face numerous challenges in making ends meet each month. They expect politicians to address their issues without constantly disrupting lives with elections.

The general public doesn’t vote for the Socialist Party (PS); it’s mostly the older population. The younger generation tends to support Chega.

Chega, with its current success, wields significant influence, affecting everything and everyone. Were it not for the issues with its deputies, Chega might have secured more than 25% of the vote.

Fate has made the ‘uproar’ within Chega a focal point, but now Pedro Nuno Santos will need to pack his bags.

José Luís Carneiro or Fernando Medina may aspire to become the next leader of the PS. The timeframe for a Congress is limited by the upcoming local elections in September/October.

The Democratic Alliance (AD) emerged victorious, but it must exercise restraint and avoid becoming overly euphoric. It does not have an absolute majority, not even with the Liberal Initiative (IL). It appears reinforced but carries more responsibility.

Montenegro’s company brought him more votes.

Chega represents a ‘case study,’ shaking the political system, creating new polarities, and causing divisions.

Youths face challenges such as low wages and high housing costs, often leading them to emigrate. This dissatisfaction drives them to reject solutions deemed exhausted and opt for alternatives to traditional ruling parties, using their support for Chega as a form of protest.”
