The losses in the first six months of the year contrast with profits of 2.073 billion reais (€325.7 million) during the same period in 2024, as outlined in the company’s market statement this Wednesday.
According to the financial report, excluding extraordinary effects, primarily an asset accounting adjustment mandated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel, regulator), the company achieved an adjusted net profit of 1.389 billion reais (€218.2 million) in the semester.
Eletrobras reported that the result was impacted by 3.4 billion reais (about $622.8 million) due to adjustments in transmission contracts promoted by Aneel, a non-recurring event caused by changes in the revenue calculation methodology for electric companies.
In the second quarter, the company faced losses of 1.330 billion reais (€208.9 million) due to this adjustment, contrasting with profits of 1.740 billion reais (€273.35 million) in the same period in 2024.
Excluding extraordinary effects, the adjusted net profit in the second quarter was 1.469 billion reais (€230.8 million), up 43.3% compared to the same period last year.
The increase in adjusted quarterly profit enabled the leading energy generation and transmission company in Brazil to announce that it will distribute extraordinary dividends worth 4 billion reais (€628.4 million) to its approximately 240,000 shareholders this month.
The company had already distributed 4.1 billion reais (€644.1 million) in dividends at the beginning of the year, marking the third-largest payout in its history.
Investments in the second quarter totaled 1.966 billion reais (€308.9 million), an increase of 116% compared to the first three months of the year and nearly unchanged from the same period in 2024.
Company expenses decreased by 4% during the period, aided by a 10% reduction in the workforce over the past twelve months.
The company’s gross debt stood at 70.290 billion reais (€11 billion), a reduction of 0.74% compared to the same month last year.
According to the report, with 47 hydroelectric plants, 33 wind farms, one solar, and just one thermal plant, enabling it to generate nearly 99% of its energy from renewable sources, the company had an installed capacity of 44,368 megawatts of energy in June.
