Elevator. Turismo de Portugal praises the work of the entities involved

“The Board of Directors of Turismo de Portugal and its employees have learned with deep sadness and dismay of the tragic accident at the Elevador da Glória in Lisbon, which resulted in a significant number of fatalities and serious injuries, including foreign nationals,” the organization stated in a release.

In a note issued today, Turismo de Portugal extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to all those directly or indirectly affected by this loss, as well as their support for the recovery of the injured.

“The Institute also expresses its appreciation to all entities involved in the rescue and support of the victims, sharing in the sorrow of the city of Lisbon during this difficult time of mourning,” the statement further noted.

The Elevador da Glória in Lisbon derailed this Wednesday at 18:04 on Calçada da Glória.

INEM reported that the accident resulted in 15 fatalities and 23 injuries, five of which are serious and 13 minor.

The government has declared a national day of mourning for Thursday.

The Elevador da Glória, operated by Carris, connects Restauradores to the Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto over a distance of approximately 265 meters and is a popular attraction among tourists.
