The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), Pedro Nuno Santos, marked the birthday of Maria Barroso, who would have turned 100 today, describing her as an “emblematic figure.”
“On the day of the centenary of Maria Barroso’s birth, the PS and its members join with affection and nostalgia in honoring a life of courage and determination. Always committed to achieving freedom, building Democracy, and defending the humanistic values that marked her social intervention,” he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Pedro Nuno Santos also described Maria Barroso as “an emblematic figure of Portuguese culture,” leaving “memories for various generations through her performances on stage, in cinemas, and in poetry recitation.”
“A source of inspiration for the educational project to which she dedicated many years at Colégio Moderno. Words alone cannot do justice to the legacy of one of our founding members, and it is a privilege to associate ourselves with the celebrations conducted in honor of her legacy,” he stated.
