The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), José Luís Carneiro, today demanded answers from Prime Minister Luís Montenegro regarding hospital emergency services in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, specifically in pediatric, orthopedic, and obstetric specialties on the Setúbal Peninsula.
Speaking to journalists at an elementary school in Sintra before the presentation of Ana Mendes Godinho’s candidacy for the presidency of this municipality, supported by PS and Livre, José Luís Carneiro posed three questions to the Prime Minister, seeking responses “in the coming days.”
Firstly, the PS Secretary-General wants to know “whether the government has or does not have an emergency management plan for hospital emergencies in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, for Lisbon and the Tagus Valley.”
“The second question is why the Setúbal Peninsula has continued to experience days and weeks without an adequate response, particularly in pediatrics, orthopedics, and also obstetrics,” he added.
The third question José Luís Carneiro expects the Prime Minister to answer concerns “the government’s announcement that it would deploy four aerial means to support hospital emergencies, four helicopters.”
“We learned over the weekend that only one of these helicopters will be operational. The question is why these four aerial means, which were supposed to strengthen hospital emergencies, are not meeting the needs, and we continue to witness the unfortunate and sad situation of mothers losing their babies due to a lack of adequate response,” he said.
