The number of Portuguese who emigrated to the Netherlands in 2022 was the highest since 2000, and was higher than those who chose Luxembourg to live, a traditional destination for Portuguese emigration, according to official data.

Citing data from the ‘Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek’, a Dutch body that registers the entry of foreigners, the Emigration Observatory revealed that last year 4,533 Portuguese entered that country.

In that year, the Netherlands registered 378,122 foreign arrivals, with the Portuguese accounting for 1.2%.

Compared to 2021, Portuguese emigration to this country grew by 33.1% and even reached the highest value of entries since 2000.

This choice for the Netherlands was higher than the choice of the Portuguese for Luxembourg (3,633 entries in 2022), a traditional destination for Portuguese emigration.

Since 2000, Portuguese emigration to the Netherlands had a minimum value in 2005 (830 entries) and a maximum in 2022 (4,533 entries).
