
The number of unemployed individuals registered at employment centers fell by 4% in July and by 0.2% compared to June, reaching 292,825, marking a decline for the sixth consecutive month, according to data released today by the IEFP.
The Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP) stated that at the end of July, “292,825 unemployed individuals were registered in the employment services of the Continent and Autonomous Regions, representing 66.9% of a total of 437,542 job requests.”
This is a decrease of 12,314 people registered at employment centers compared to July 2024. This decline, in absolute terms, was influenced by those registered for less than 12 months (-12,727), those seeking a new job (-11,424), and individuals over 25 years old (-10,577),” noted the IEFP in the report released today.
Comparatively to June, this represents a reduction of 663 individuals registered at employment centers.
It marks the sixth consecutive month of decline and mirrors the previous month’s record, being the lowest number since July 2023, when 284,330 individuals were registered at employment centers, based on the available data analysis.
Regarding the most prominent professional groups compared to the same period last year, “there is a decrease in unemployment among groups of “farmers and skilled agricultural, fishery, and forestry workers” (-18.5%), “administrative staff” (-14.2%), “technicians and intermediate level professions” (-9.7%), and “skilled workers in industry, construction, and crafts” (-7.2%).”
Conversely, there was an increase in unemployment “among the professional group of “legislative representatives, executive bodies, managers, directors, and executive managers” (+17.3%) and “unskilled workers” (+3.2%).”
Regionally, registered unemployment decreased in all regions except Alentejo, compared to the same period last year, with the most significant decline recorded in the autonomous region of Madeira (-19.4%).
When comparing monthly, “some increases were noted in the Northern, Central, and Alentejo regions,” the IEFP revealed.
At the end of July, there were 19,014 unsatisfied job offers in employment services nationwide, reflecting an annual increase in files (+6,836; +56.1%) but a decrease from the previous month (-292; -1.5%).
