A profession with the highest number of job vacancies across the European Union (EU) in 2024 was that of sales, marketing, and development managers, accounting for 8.4%, according to Eurostat on Wednesday.
The European statistics service highlights that these are experimental statistics, as they are in the evaluation phase and partly compiled using a new data source based on online job advertisements.
Other professions with unmet worker demand across the EU last year included auxiliary workers in manufacturing and other administrative support workers (7.3% each), other sales workers (6.1%), and associate technicians in artistic, cultural, and culinary areas (6.0%).
The bulletin notes that while public sector professions, such as healthcare professionals and teachers, may also face recruitment difficulties, they are less likely to be advertised online, causing them to appear lower in the list or not at all in these data.
Conversely, professions in the information technology sector may be overrepresented in online job ad data.

A study released on Tuesday shows that “flexibility is the new currency for attracting talent.” According to the majority of human resources professionals, candidates now prioritize this option over salary.
