Enjoy Sunday: The sun will not last long. Rain returns (and with force)

After a rainy Saturday that led to an orange alert for five districts in Portugal, Sunday defied forecasts with clear skies and a slight increase in maximum temperatures in the North and Center of the country.

However, the rainy weather is here to stay. The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) predicts a week marked by frequent rain episodes and “high amounts of precipitation.”

This situation is due to the “influence of low-pressure systems and the passage of strong frontal systems across the territory,” which will worsen weather conditions.

Therefore, keep your umbrella handy: the first episode of heavy rain is expected from the afternoon of Tuesday, the 28th, and Wednesday, the 29th. The IPMA highlights “favorable conditions for thunderstorms” on these days.

The second episode of heavy rain is likely to occur on the afternoon of next Thursday, the 30th, and will continue through the rest of the week, with “short periods of improved weather conditions.”

According to the IPMA, this episode “will affect the entire territory, but with greater intensity in the North and Center regions, bringing sometimes heavy rain, strong winds, and very strong gusts on the west coast and highlands.”

Temperatures will remain above the seasonal average, with maximums ranging between 18°C and 25°C across much of the mainland.
