The national caravan of Chega made its sole stop in the district of Santarém today, during its campaign for the municipal elections set for Sunday. The event, held late afternoon, marked the most attended gathering so far.
The party leader was warmly received with trumpets and chants of “Ventura, Ventura,” “Chega, Chega,” “Ventura go ahead, your people are here,” “victory, victory,” and “jump André, olé, olé.”
“We’re going to win,” the party leader replied continuously.
Speaking to journalists, André Ventura expressed his expectation that Sunday will bring about “the Entroncamento phenomenon,” a municipality where the party triumphed in the last legislative elections in May.
“We already won in the legislative elections, and we are going to win in the municipal ones as well,” he asserted.
The gathering began near the Entroncamento City Hall, which Chega hopes will soon be led by its candidate, Nelson Cunha, concluding at the train station where a bus adorned with party symbols awaited.
The vehicle was decorated with photographs of various candidates alongside the leader’s image, emblazoned with the phrase “the necessary cleansing.”
During the journey, there was a stop to enjoy a coffee, which André Ventura made sure to sweeten.
When asked if the sugar was to provide the necessary energy to last until the end of the electoral campaign, the Chega president assured he had enough.
“No, I don’t need energy, I hope, to finish the campaign. I think it’s going to go well. It’s going very well and I think it’s going to continue to go very well,” he stated.
The candidate explained to Ventura that it was a new business venture by young entrepreneurs and took the opportunity to highlight that Entroncamento needs “young people” and a “commercial dynamic” to “revive” the municipality.
“What we want is to awaken this city, which has been a dormitory town,” emphasized Nelson Cunha.
Throughout the route, the Chega candidate for the presidency of Entroncamento City Council pointed out some of the council’s challenges and his candidacy’s proposed solutions to André Ventura, though he was frequently interrupted by people approaching the party leader for a greeting, a photo, or an autograph.
Nelson Cunha advocated for the Municipal Police to be armed as a means of increasing security in the municipality.
“The primary factor for creating more commercial dynamism will clearly be security. This is what we are going to strive for, it will be our flagship measure,” he indicated.
At the end of the gathering, the leader and candidate boarded the bus to greet those present, cheered enthusiastically, and sang the national anthem.
