“Enthusiasm.” Minister visits recordings of the series ‘Marquesa de Alorna’

The Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, shared a visit on Tuesday to the set of a new TV series titled ‘Marquesa de Alorna,’ which will air on RTP.

“The Marquesa de Alorna is inspiring a series premiering in 2026 on RTP. Watching the filming at the National Palace of Queluz provided an opportunity to witness the production’s enthusiasm for the historical portrayal of a woman who was an example of emancipation in her time,” stated a post on the social platform X (formerly Twitter).

The TV series ‘Marquesa de Alorna’ is an adaptation of the book by Maria João Lopo de Carvalho, consisting of six episodes.

Leonor de Almeida Portugal, known as the Marquesa de Alorna, lived from 1750 to 1839. She was a writer, educator, and translator, with her poetic works published posthumously.

The series synopsis reveals: “From the Lisbon convent to the extravagant Viennese court, we will uncover the secret stories of a fearless Marquesa that led to the awakening of a woman: first loves, first betrayals, the birth of children, first losses.”

Actress Sara Matos will lead as the protagonist, with Sandra Faleiro, Cristóvão Campos, Albano Jerónimo, Joana Solnado, Rita Rocha Silva, Soraia Chaves, and Miguel Borges rounding out the cast.

Filming started at the end of May, taking place in Lisbon, Almeirim, and Salvaterra de Magos.
