The third day of the Estoril Open in tennis will feature 13 matches, still from the first rounds of singles and doubles, after the second round on Tuesday was postponed due to rain.

João Sousa’s debut, in what will be the last tournament of the career of the best Portuguese tennis player ever, was one of Tuesday’s postponed matches, with the Guimarães player, currently ranked 272nd in the world, facing young Frenchman Arthur Fils, 37th in the ranking.

João Sousa’s match will be the third on the main court, which will open with a match between 17-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca (ranked 288th), who received an invitation from the organizers, and British qualifier Jan Choinski (188th), with Austrian Jurij Rodionov and Chilean Cristian Garín closing out a match that began on Monday.

Portugal’s Henrique Rocha, who broke into the top 200 this week (197th), will be in the main draw of the Estoril Open for the second time, facing experienced Frenchman Gaël Monfils, 45th, in the fourth and penultimate match of the day on the centre court, which will close with the match between Argentinian Federico Coria and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, who started playing on Tuesday.

Coming from qualifying, Jaime Faria, ranked 262nd, will play his second match on the Cascais court against 329th-ranked Spaniard David Jorda Sanchís, who was brought in at the last minute to replace 90th-ranked Frenchman Constant Lestienne, who has a left knee injury.

On the second most important court at the Estoril Tennis Club, there are two Portuguese doubles matches, the first featuring Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral, who won the tournament in 2022, against French second seeds Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul.

Having already played singles, João Sousa and João Fonseca will team up to play doubles against Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and Dutchman Sem Verbeek.
