Eugénio de Andrade will be the author honored at the 2024 Porto Book Fair

The poet Eugénio de Andrade will be the author honored at this year’s edition of the Porto Book Fair, which will take place from August 23 to September 8, the municipality has revealed.

The announcement was made by the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, during the presentation of the Eugénio de Andrade Digital Library, which will make available more than 400 poems, manuscripts, photographs, postcards and books by the poet.

This year’s edition of the Book Fair returns to the Palácio de Cristal Gardens on August 23rd, where it will run until September 8th, revealed the mayor, adding that the poet Andreia C. Faria will be the commissioner of the tribute.

“Eugénio is a beloved poet of Porto and the country, but this edition of the Book Fair will be an especially vibrant reunion of the city’s public with his work, allowing for fresh perspectives,” said Rui Moreira.

Andreia C. Faria will be joined by programmer João Gesta, who will develop the literary agenda, and Tiago Andrade, who will be responsible for the music and outdoor programming.

The mayor also said that Eugénio de Andrade will also be the protagonist of the 2024 Book Fair exhibition, “taking advantage of the literary and artistic collections of his former publisher, José Cruz Santos”, and of the artist Armando Alves, “who lent his graphic mark to so many of his works.”

In 2023, the Porto Book Fair celebrated the writer and journalist Manuel António Pina, and welcomed around 190,000 visitors.

For 17 days, the Palácio de Cristal Gardens were home to 108 publishers, booksellers and booksellers, who received a record number of visits, 20% more than in the 2022 edition.
