Euro falls against the dollar and hits August lows

At 6:00 PM (Lisbon time), the euro was trading at 1.1558 dollars, compared to 1.1606 dollars at the same time on Wednesday.

The euro rose against the pound and fell relative to the yen.

The European Central Bank (ECB) set the euro’s reference exchange rate at 1.1611 dollars.

During today’s session, the euro fluctuated between 1.1552 and 1.1648 dollars.

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, defended his trade policy today, asserting that tariffs imposed on other countries “brought peace to the world.”

“Having the ability to manage trade and use tariffs to defend my point of view brought peace to the world,” Trump said during a telephone interview with Fox News.

The President was responding to questions about his diplomatic efforts and the recent Israel-Hamas peace agreement for the Gaza Strip, mediated by Washington.

“I made seven peace deals, in some cases after 30 or 130 years of conflict. In at least five of them, tariffs played a crucial role,” the U.S. leader stated.
