Eurostat confirms inflation of 1.9% in the eurozone in May and 2.2% in the EU

The annual inflation rate in the euro area slowed to 1.9% in May, down from 2.2% in April and 2.6% in May 2024.

In the European Union, the inflation indicator stood at 2.2% in May, compared to 2.4% in April and 2.7% in the same month last year.

The European statistics service also reports that among the member states, the highest inflation rates were recorded in Romania (5.4%), Estonia (4.6%), and Hungary (4.5%).

Conversely, the lowest rates were observed in Cyprus (0.4%), France (0.6%), and Ireland (1.4%), with Portugal ranking sixth at 1.7% annual inflation in May.

Compared to April, annual inflation decreased in 14 member states, remained stable in one, and increased in 12.
