
The euro area’s inflation rate stood at 2.0% in June, as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), compared to 1.9% in May and 2.5% in June 2024.
Across the 27 EU member states, prices increased by 2.3%, indicating a slight acceleration from the 2.2% observed in May, though reflecting a slowdown from the annual variation of 2.6% in June 2024.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as unprocessed food and energy, was 2.3% in the eurozone, the same as in May, but lower than the 2.9% recorded in June 2024.
Among member states, annual inflation fell in five countries in June but rose in the remaining 22.
According to the European statistical service, Cyprus (0.5%), France (0.9%), and Ireland (1.6%) reported the lowest inflation rates, in contrast to Romania (5.8%), Estonia (5.2%), Hungary, and Slovakia (4.6% each).
In Portugal, the annual inflation rate (measured by HICP) was 2.1% in June.
