
Inflation, as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), increased from the 1.7% recorded in September 2024.
The annual core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as energy and food, is expected to remain at 2.3%, stable since May, and below the 2.7% of September 2024.
According to the estimate by the European statistical service, among the various components of inflation, services are expected to register the highest annual rate in September (3.2%, compared to 3.1% in August), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (3.0%, against 3.2% in August), non-energy industrial goods (0.8%, stable compared to August), and energy (-0.4%, against -2.0% in August).
Among the euro area countries, Estonia (5.2%), Croatia and Slovakia (4.6% each), and Latvia (4.1%) showed the highest annual inflation rates in September, while Cyprus (0.0%), France (1.1%), Greece and Italy (1.8% each) recorded the lowest.
In Portugal, Eurostat points to a decrease to 1.9% in the HICP, below the 2.6% year-on-year and 2.5% recorded in August.
