The Local Health Unit of Alentejo Central (ULSAC) announced on its website that the emergency orthopedic service at the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora (HESE) will remain unavailable until 8:00 AM on Friday. This decision is attributed to unforeseen issues related to the unavailability of the necessary team during this period.
As a result, the health unit has advised the public to contact the SNS 24 Line at 808 24 24 24, emphasizing that the National Health Service operates as a network. According to ULSAC, contacting SNS 24 is essential for patients to receive appropriate guidance based on the severity of their situation and to be directed to other institutions if needed.
ULSAC also reminded the public of the 24-hour emergency services available at health centers in Vendas Novas, Montemor-o-Novo, and Estremoz.
In addition to the 24-hour orthopedic service suspension, the HESE emergency department has been facing limitations in admitting patients in the internal medicine specialty for the past week. These restrictions have now been extended until 8:00 PM on Friday.
The acceptance of new admissions in this specialty is limited to patients referred by CODU/INEM, other doctors, or through the SNS 24 line, according to the health unit. ULSAC explained that this temporary measure is due to a high influx of patients with complex clinical cases requiring hospitalization, combined with a reduced available team in the mentioned specialty.
The limitations on patient admissions in the internal medicine specialty began on the 14th and have been repeatedly extended. The public is urged to contact SNS 24 or seek primary health care units before heading to the hospital to ensure proper referral according to the severity of their condition.
