The Local Health Unit of the Central Alentejo (ULSAC) reported that from January to the end of July this year, the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora (HESE) performed 1,258 inpatient surgeries, up from 985 in the same period last year, marking a 27.7% increase.
Regarding outpatient surgeries, there was an increase of 15.8%, rising from 4,589 in the first seven months of 2024 to 5,316 in the same period this year, the local health unit highlighted.
In total, combining inpatient and outpatient surgeries, HESE carried out 6,574 surgeries by the end of July, precisely 1,000 more than in the same period last year (5,574), corresponding to an increase of nearly 18%.
In hospital healthcare, according to ULSAC, the total number of medical consultations at this Alentejo hospital increased by 4.1%, from 100,834 in the first seven months of 2024 to 104,960 in the same period this year.
“In the oncology field, chemotherapy sessions grew by 10.3%, from 6,373 to 7,032, while complex medical treatments (such as catheterizations, hysteroscopies, or polysomnographies) increased by 10.2%, from 3,347 to 3,687,” it stated.
The local health unit also reported that home hospitalization in Évora experienced “a significant growth of 43.8%”, reinforcing “the commitment to providing home healthcare.”
In primary healthcare, ULSAC noted that medical home visits increased by 19.2%, during the period analyzed, from 2,297 to 2,739.
Non-face-to-face medical consultations rose by 6.1%, from 162,493 to 172,447, while non-medical consultations, including nursing, psychology, nutrition, among other specialties, increased by 14.4%, from 26,198 to 29,962.
“Overall, the 2025 results demonstrate positive progress in several strategic areas of ULSAC, reflecting enhanced responsiveness and proximity of healthcare services provided to the population,” it added.
