A man was arrested on Friday on charges of three counts of violence against his former partner and an additional charge of arson.
A statement from the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) indicated that “the suspect, after leaving the house, threatened to kill his former partner and proceeded to set her vehicle on fire, completely destroying it.”
Authorities noted that the 54-year-old man had already been implicated in several domestic violence crimes committed in recent years.
A police source, speaking to the agency Lusa, disclosed that the incidents took place “in the city of Évora, between last Saturday and Sunday.” The suspect’s former partner is “between 40 and 45 years old,” the source added.
The suspect is expected to appear before judicial authorities later on Friday for a preliminary hearing and to discuss potential bail conditions.
