Exams start in May with Artistic Education for 4th-grade students.

The government has released the schedule for the 2025-2026 academic year, detailing dates for various assessments including the Monitoring of Learning tests (ModA), basic education final exams, and national secondary school final exams.

ModA tests annually assess 4th and 6th-grade students in Portuguese and Mathematics, along with a rotating subject such as English or History. This year, 4th graders will also be evaluated in Artistic Education and will be the first to take these assessments.

Schools are responsible for setting the dates for these tests, which can be held between May 27 and June 9. It is specified that schools must ensure all students take their tests on the same day.

4th-grade students will take the Portuguese test on June 2 and the Mathematics test on June 5. Meanwhile, 6th graders will be examined in English on June 29, followed by Portuguese on June 3 and Mathematics on June 8.

Tests in English and Portuguese as a Non-Mother Tongue (PLNM) for foreign 4th and 6th-grade students include oral production and interaction components. Schools will choose appropriate dates for these components between May 29 and June 9, with the possibility of scheduling over several days.

ModA tests have replaced the previously used assessment tests, with the Ministry of Education opting not to release test content to allow the model to be reused in future years for better comparison of student progress.

On June 17, 9th-grade students will take their final Portuguese exam, followed by Mathematics on June 22. These exams contribute 30% towards the final grade and are mandatory for completing the third cycle.

Students in 4th, 6th, and 9th grades who fail or receive home-schooling can take basic education equivalency exams, which start on July 6 for primary cycle students and end on July 7 for third cycle students.

The schedule also includes national secondary school final exams. These will begin on June 16 at 9:30 AM with the compulsory Portuguese exam for 12th graders, followed by an Economics exam for 11th-grade students in the afternoon.

On June 17, 11th-grade students will sit for Descriptive Geometry in the morning, and a foreign language exam—options include German, Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, or Mandarin—in the afternoon.

Biology and Geography exams are scheduled for June 18, with Geography A on June 19. On June 22, 12th-grade students will take History exams, and 11th graders will take Portuguese Literature.

On June 23, Mathematics exams will be held for both 11th and 12th graders, along with the English exam for 11th-grade students.

For the final two days of the first phase of national exams, assessments in Physics and Chemistry, Drawing, and Philosophy are scheduled, with a second phase planned from July 16 to 22.

The results from the first phase will be posted on July 14, and in cases where students request a review, the re-evaluation results will be available on August 6.
