The document presented today by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Carlos Abreu Amorim, to the first Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Social Democrat Teresa Morais, reveals that Luís Montenegro’s government is considering “the existence of a shared parental leave with a caregiver alternative to the parents.”
This possibility of shared parental leave with someone other than the parents, the government notes in its program, will particularly focus on “cases where only one parent assumes the care of the child, such as in some situations of single-parent families or cases of prolonged absence.”
The Program of the XXV Constitutional Government, following the legislative elections of May 18 won by the AD coalition (PSD/CDS), was delivered today to the Assembly of the Republic by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Carlos Abreu Amorim.
The government program was approved by the Council of Ministers on Thursday and will be debated in the Assembly of the Republic on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The PCP has already announced that it will present a motion of rejection, but the communists’ initiative is expected to be defeated, as, in addition to the PSD and CDS, it will also not receive support from Chega and the PS.
