Details of the 2025-2026 exhibition season were released today during a press conference by the CCB’s board of directors and various artistic teams, although museum director Nuria Enguita was not present and will make an independent presentation soon.
On October 25, the exhibition ‘Avenida 211’ is scheduled to open, curated by Nuria Enguita and Marta Mestre. This exhibition is dedicated to the iconic building on Lisbon’s Avenida da Liberdade, which between 2006 and 2014 was described as a hub of artistic activity in the capital.
Over forty artists and musicians of different generations used the location for their work during this period. Here, engineer, artist, and animator António Bolota had his studio and contributed to various curatorial projects, as detailed in the research by Giorgia Casara and Sara De Chiara for this exhibition.
This context was crucial for the vitality of Lisbon’s art scene during a time marked by the global financial crisis (2008-2009) and Portugal’s debt crisis and the troika’s intervention (2010-2014), both significant events in the city’s financial transformation, as noted by the MAC/CCB. The exhibition will be open until April 5, 2026.
Between October 24 and 26, MAC/CCB will celebrate its second anniversary since replacing the former Museu Coleção Berardo with the official opening of ‘Avenida 211’, including talks, concerts, workshops, guided tours, and family activities.
‘Lugar de estar: O legado de Burle Marx,’ curated by the institution named after the Brazilian artist and the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, through Isabela Ono, Pablo Lafuente, and Beatriz Lemos, will open on November 26, adapted and curated by Nuria Enguita.
Roberto Burle Marx, a Brazilian artist and landscape designer, known internationally for his landscape work and as a pioneer of modernist landscaping in Brazil, was also a painter, draftsman, designer, sculptor, and singer.
Starting February 11, the exhibition ‘Habitar Portugal’, curated by Alexandra Saraiva, Célia Gomes, and Rui Leão, will be open. This initiative by the Order of Architects began in 2003 to present recent references in Portuguese architectural quality.
The exhibition ‘May I help you? – Arts and Artists from the 1970s Onwards’, curated by Nuria Enguita, Marta Mestre, and Raphael Fonseca, will open on February 25, 2026.
Norwegian artist and sociologist Frida Orupabo, known for her collage work challenging the commercial exploitation of images of people in vulnerable situations, will have an exhibition starting June 17, 2026.
On April 29, the exhibition ‘José Pedro Croft: Reflexos, enclaves, desvios’, curated by Luiz Camillo Osorio, will open, focusing on the Portuguese artist born in Porto in 1957, known for his geometric sculptures and paintings.
In the 1980s, José Pedro Croft began his extensive career in sculpture, using industrial materials like wood and metal on glass or mirror surfaces.
The upcoming exhibitions include ‘Olhos Múltiplos,’ curated by Nuria Enguita and Rafael Barber Cortell, from May 13, and ‘Terra,’ opening June 3.
On October 2, MAC/CCB will host the exhibition ‘Lighter’, stemming from collaboration with the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, starting that day under the theme ‘How heavy is a city?’ with curators Ann-Sofifi Ronnskog and John Palmesino from Territorial Agency.
During today’s press conference, board member Madalena Reis announced the enhancement of musical presence at MAC/CCB through the ‘Música no Museu’ program, featuring piano, guitar, and singing recitals.
The season will highlight performances such as the piano recital ‘Silêncio em três tempos surreais’ by Ana Telles, ‘Sonatas e Interlúdios de John Cage’ by Elsa Silva, ‘Repetições transitórias’ by Duo Sirius, ‘Três vozes de Morton Feldman’ by Camila Mandillo, and ‘À descoberta da paixão pela música’ by Jorge Moyano.
Regarding the selection of the CCB’s Contemporary Art Museum and Architecture Center’s architecture curator, following former curator Mariana Pestana’s departure, Madalena Reis stated that 25 applications were received, with the announcement expected in the first half of October.
The results for the performing arts director competition, still accepting applications until Monday, are expected in the first half of November.
