
Portugal’s goods exports to France fell by 1.2% during the first seven months of the year, reaching 5.830,1 million euros, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
From January to July, imports increased by 9.7% to 4.851,2 million euros, resulting in a positive trade balance for Portugal of 978.9 million euros.
Last year, exports to France totaled 9.534,4 million euros, reflecting a 5.8% decrease compared to 2023, while imports rose 6% to 7.726,6 million euros.
In 2023, France was Portugal’s second-largest customer, moving to third place in 2024, a position it currently holds.
As a supplier to Portugal, France ranks third.
Last year, Lisbon was Paris’s 14th client and its 16th supplier.
In 2024, there were 4.867 exporting companies to France, compared to 5.415 the previous year and 5.808 in 2022.
Among the top exported goods to France are vehicles and other transport materials (which represented 15.5% of the total last year, falling 13% to 1.478,9 million euros), followed by common metals (12.4% share, a decline of 6.6% to 1.180 million euros), and machinery and appliances (12.1% share, a reduction of 15.3% to 1.154,2 million euros).
Lisbon’s purchases from Paris are characterized by vehicles and other transport equipment, accounting for 26.4% of the total and amounting to 2.043,5 million euros last year (+5.1%), machinery and appliances at 16.1% (+14.8% to 1.246,7 million euros), and chemicals, representing 11.6% of the total (+9.4% to 892,5 million euros).
Regarding Portugal’s services trade balance with France, exports increased by 3.5% to 2.864,4 million euros by June, while imports rose by 4.1% to 990,9 million euros.
