Extended applications for support to farmers affected by bad weather

According to a recent update published today in the Diário da República, the deadline for the submission of applications—originally set for September 1—has been extended to September 15.

The government has allocated six million euros to support the recovery of agricultural operations in regions affected by depressions Garoé and Martinho, as well as the Campo Maior tornado, all of which have been recognized as adverse weather phenomena equivalent to a natural disaster.

These weather events, occurring from January 20 to 23, March 19 to 21, and on May 2, have been officially classified as adverse weather phenomena equivalent to a natural disaster in the order published on July 14. The order aims to provide support to restore the production conditions of the affected agricultural operations and to ensure they can resume normal activities.

Today’s publication in the Diário da República states the extension of the application deadline to September 15 has been made due to the identification of more affected parishes than previously listed in the initial order.

“It was determined that other parishes in the North, Alentejo, and Algarve regions also suffered damage caused by depression Martinho. It is necessary to add these parishes to the annex to ensure the affected can present applications for the aforementioned support,” it explains.

Eligible for support are operations that suffered damage exceeding 30% of production potential, with associated investments ranging from a minimum of 5,000 euros to a maximum of 400,000 euros.

The support includes 100% of eligible expenses up to 10,000 euros; 80% of eligible expenses over 10,000 euros for beneficiaries with insurance under the Agricultural Insurance System; and 50% of eligible expenses over 10,000 euros for those without insurance coverage.
