Extramuralhas Festival starts today in Leiria with 22 artists from 14 nationalities

The gothic festival Extramuralhas kicks off today in Leiria, with a program of 22 shows from 14 nationalities until Saturday, highlighting the presence of bands such as The Young Gods and Clock DVA or the transdisciplinary company Ultima Vez.

The 12th edition of the festival organized by the Fade In association features bands from Switzerland, Italy, France, Turkey, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Portugal.

They will be joined by the Belgian company Ultima Vez, led by choreographer Wim Vandekeybus, who will bring “Hands do not touch your precious me” to Leiria, with a performance by Olivier de Sagazan and music by Charo Calvo.

Extramuralhas is promoting nine premieres in Portugal: Lili Refrain, Clock DVA, Corpus Delicti, Walt Disco, Denuit, Ductape, Leæther Strip, Girls in Synthesis and Venin Carmin.

Called Gothic, the festival encompasses various aesthetics of independent music, such as post-punk, dark wave, minimal wave, noise rock, techno, industrial, neoclassical and ritualistic music.

The shows take place at the Castelo de Leiria, Teatro José Lúcio da Silva, Jardim Luís de Camões and Stereogun, 11 of which are free.

The festival kicks off this afternoon with concerts by Lili Refrain (Italy), Venin Carmin (France), Ductape (Turkey), The Young Gods (Switzerland) and Lith Li (Spain) and a multidisciplinary performance by the Ultima Vez company.

Friday’s acts in Leiria include Capela das Almas (Portugal), Twin Noir (Germany), Esplendor Geométrico (Spain), Clock DVA (England), Ditz (England), Corpus Delicti (France), Denuit (France) and Melanie Havens (Germany).

For the last day of Extramuralhas, on Saturday, the program includes Iamtheshadow (Portugal), Girls in Synthesis (England), Gggolddd (Netherlands), Grave Pleasures (Finland), Walt Disco (Scotland), Das Ich (Germany), Leæther Strip (Denmark) and Eskil Simonsson (Sweden).
