A 48-year-old man was arrested in the act by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in the early hours of Monday on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting his ex-partner in Lisbon.
In a statement, the PJ indicated that the crime occurred at 4:00 am on Sunday, August 24, on a street in Lisbon, as the woman was attempting to escape the man described as “extremely violent.”
“As she was preparing to go to the airport to catch a flight in order to flee from physical and psychological abuse by this individual, the woman was intercepted by the suspect, who violently pulled her out of a vehicle and forced her into his own,” the statement reads.
The PJ’s National Unit Against Terrorism later located the suspect’s vehicle at a motel on the south bank and rescued the victim, a 50-year-old woman. It was further established that the woman had already filed a complaint for domestic violence due to previous assaults that required her to seek hospital care.
The man was caught in the act, and a house search led to the seizure of about 45 rounds of .22 LR caliber ammunition, while the victim was taken to a hospital.
The defendant will be presented to the Lisbon Department of Investigation and Penal Action for a preliminary judicial hearing and the subsequent application of appropriate coercive measures.
