Fabian Figueiredo and Andreia Galvão will replace Mortágua on a rotating basis

The announcement was made in the late afternoon in Coimbra by Miguel Cardina, spokesperson for the ‘A’ Motion list, following a meeting held today in Coimbra, which approved José Manuel Pureza as a candidate for the party’s coordination.

“We will use the rotation as allowed by law,” he assured journalists, highlighting that Fabian Figueiredo will assume the position of deputy, seconded by Andreia Galvão.

Former deputy José Manuel Pureza was today voted by the subscribers of the ‘A’ Motion as the leading candidate for the National Board (the highest body between conventions) and the Political Commission (the body ensuring daily leadership).

The list for the National Board was approved with 93% of the votes, and the list for the Political Commission obtained 92%, while the Rights Commission list was approved with 96%.

“José Manuel Pureza is a person who possesses a series of characteristics and qualities that qualify him for this phase of BE. He has political experience and also significant internal and external recognition,” said Miguel Cardina.

The researcher and historian emphasized that it is a deeply rejuvenated list, with an average age of 38 years, renewed, with 40% of the people being in the National Board for the first time.

For the ‘A’ Motion, José Manuel Pureza “is the best name to propose for the phase that BE is in and for the necessity to relaunch, as this is fundamental for the left, which needs a strong BE, and the country needs a strong left”.

“We are very confident in this choice and in the entire list we presented, both for the Political Commission and for the National Board, which is necessary for these times that BE faces,” emphasized Miguel Cardina.

José Manuel Marques da Silva Pureza, 66, was born in Coimbra and was first elected as a deputy for this electoral circle in 2009, serving until 2011, then between 2015 and 2019, and finally between 2019 and 2022.

During this period, he served as parliamentary leader, reaching the position of vice-president of the Assembly of the Republic. Currently, he is a member of the National Board of BE and, this year, ran for the Coimbra City Council.

In addition to the ‘A’ motion, which gathers about 600 subscribers, four more opposition texts were presented at the 14th National Convention of BE, which will take place in Lisbon on November 29 and 30.
