Sixteen people were left homeless due to the collapse of the side facade of an old neighboring building in the early hours of Wednesday on Rua do Sol à Graça, in the São Vicente parish of Lisbon. On site, Carlos Moedas assured that from this incident “there were no casualties, no injuries”.
The mayor of Lisbon, speaking to journalists, explained that there was “a construction project ongoing here, a building whose entire wall collapsed”, noting that “people were not injured, nothing happened to them, they were referred to alternative accommodation, they were tourists”.
“Then, in the building below, which houses five households“, two have already been provided a solution. Moedas noted that, among these, “there is a family with a very young baby being closely monitored”.
Meanwhile, “we will immediately start an inspection by our urban planning service, as there is an inquiry to be conducted” to understand what occurred. It aims to determine “if the issues are structural or superficial”.
Carlos Moedas also emphasized that the City Council “will find the necessary solutions”. “Even if it means accommodating them in a hotel, these people will have temporary shelter – but the most important thing now is to identify with the engineers if there is any danger in people returning to their homes”, he explained, stressing that “within the next few hours” there should be an answer.

At least 10 people were left homeless today due to the collapse of the side facade of a neighboring old building in the São Vicente parish, Lisbon, according to the Sapadores Bombeiros.

It should be noted that while the structural collapse did not cause casualties, the residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated as their homes were rendered uninhabitable.
The old building that collapsed around 03:00 is located on Rua do Sol à Graça and was undergoing renovations.
There were 10 personnel from the Lisbon Sapadores Bombeiros Regiment involved in the incident response, supported by three vehicles.
