Fado singer Sara Correia, who recently released the album “Liberdade”, will perform on February 17 at Cadogan Hall in London, the British promoter Como No, dedicated to promoting Latin roots music in the UK, announced today.
The fado singer will be accompanied on the London stage by musicians Diogo Clemente, on viola and artistic direction, Ângelo Freire, on Portuguese guitar, Frederico Gato, on bass, and Joel Silva, on drums, the same musicians who will accompany her next March at the Lisbon and Porto coliseums.
About the fado singer from Chelas, the London venue highlights her “smoky and passionate voice”.
“Sara Correia captures love and power, sadness and joy, the city of Lisbon and the Portuguese soul. Straddling the gap between dark, traditional fado and its lighter, modern incarnation, her mellifluous top lines are influenced by French song,” says Cadogan Hall, referring to her as “one of fado’s fastest rising stars”.
“Portuguese singer Sara Correia’s profile has continued to rise sharply this year, following the release of her acclaimed third studio album, ‘Liberdade’,” which came out on October 13th.
On the eve of the release of her album “Liberdade”, in an interview with the Lusa news agency, Sara Correia said that she is a fado singer who feels, “above all, that nowadays we can’t hide behind anyone, we have to be ourselves, without any kind of ties”, referring to herself as a “rebel” and hence the choice of the album’s title.
“To make an album that brings so much intensity and truth, you have to have the right team,” the fado singer said on the occasion, defending the authenticity of her work and referring to the complicity she shares with the musicians, with whom she has been working for five years, with whom she will be performing on stage, and with the producer and her musical director, Diogo Clemente.
The album includes songs by Diogo Clemente, Joana Espadinha, Pedro Abrunhosa and Carolina Deslandes, among others, and a recreation of José Afonso’s “Balada de Outono”.
The fado singer told Lusa that she still feels “very connected” to the Chelas neighborhood in Lisbon, where she was born and where she goes every day, giving the title to one of the songs on the album, “Chelas” (Carolina Deslandes/Diogo Clemente).
“My neighborhood raised me and made me the woman I am today. It was the people in my neighborhood who helped me to follow my path and to have the strength to continue in the world of music, which is quite difficult, and I’ve always had the support of my neighborhood in this regard,” she emphasized.
Sara Correia made her debut in April last year in London, when she performed at the Latin music festival La Linea.
