Falling trees and landslides. Bad weather causes 30 incidents in the Azores

The Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores (SRPCBA) reported that, by early evening, “30 incidents were recorded on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira, Faial, and Pico” due to adverse weather conditions. These incidents were “mainly related to fallen trees” and also included “fallen structures, such as electricity poles and telecommunications operators’ poles, along with two landslides.”

An SRPCBA spokesperson stated, in a communiqué sent to the Lusa agency, that “there are no casualties” and “most incidents have been resolved.”

Firefighters, municipal civil protection services, public works, forestry services, and PSP have been present at the affected sites, the Azores Civil Protection added.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for the Azores islands due to forecasts of maritime agitation, precipitation, and strong winds until Tuesday.

The yellow warning, the least severe on a three-level scale, is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather conditions.
