In a statement, CVP reports that in 2024 it supported 95,169 families with food or food vouchers, an increase of 35,169 families compared to 2023.
The organization announced that the second action of the 2025 “Vale +” campaign, aimed at gathering essential goods and donations, will start on Thursday and conclude on July 26, encompassing 281 supermarkets nationwide.
The first action of this year’s “Vale +” campaign, which took place in March, collected 239,932 euros in vouchers, 183,496 products, and 134,315 meals for “families in more vulnerable situations.”
The campaign aims to respond to the increase in requests for social support, particularly in access to food and basic necessities, such as hygiene products.
Next weekend, the delivery of food and hygiene products can be made directly to CVP volunteers at participating supermarkets.
The purchase of food and monetary vouchers (of 1, 3, and 5 euros) will be available between Thursday and July 26 at the cash registers of commercial establishments and will be converted into essential products distributed by CVP to needy families.
Milk, olive oil, tuna, and hygiene products are among the most sought-after non-perishable goods, while the food vouchers are mainly for purchasing fresh produce and specific diets.
“We are no longer supporting only those who are unemployed, but also families who, despite being in the workforce, face urgent needs,” noted CVP President António Saraiva, as quoted in the statement.
