The father, a widower with three other children, is asking for help to take his son’s body to Morocco.
Mohammed Toukhsi, the father of the boy who drowned in the sea at Canide Norte beach, in Gaia, is asking for financial help to pay for his son’s funeral, as well as the transfer of his body to Morocco.
Through a crowdfunding platform, Mohammed is asking for help to get through this “difficult time” and explains that he needs 24,000 euros for funeral expenses, transportation, family expenses and the payment of “some loans”.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have insurance for funeral services. I would also like to move my other children to another place far away, so that we can ease the pain and mourning,” it reads.
“After this painful incident, it will be difficult for us to remain near the place where my eldest son, Yassin, drowned. We all had beautiful memories of this beach. But the memory of him drowning here will remain whenever we come here,” continues the man, who stresses that the “psychological and material conditions are very difficult at this stage”.
The man, who is an Uber driver in Porto, says that he will have to “take care of the young children and help them psychologically” and that it is difficult to “return to work in the current conditions”.
In the same application, Mohamed explains that he became a widower during the Covid-19 pandemic, when his wife died. Yassine, 16, was the eldest of four children. The other children are aged 13, 7 and 5.
The man was born in Morocco and has been living and working in Portugal for five years.
