The first trailer for the second part of the hit film ‘Wicked’ has been released. The sequel to the musical, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, comes a year after the first film captivated audiences worldwide.
This second film, ‘Wicked: For Good’, is an adaptation of the second act of the 2003 stage production. In this unveiling, viewers see Elphaba (Cynthia) in hiding due to her rejection of the Wizard’s regime, and there is a first glimpse of Dorothy’s arrival, although the actress portraying Dorothy has not yet been announced.
In addition to Cynthia and Ariana, the film includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.
Director Jon M. Chu stated it was “impossible” to adapt the Wicked musical into a single film “without causing real harm”. Both films were edited simultaneously before the release of the first one last year.
‘Wicked’ grossed $755 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing theatrical musical adaptation to date. It also received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won two (Best Costume Design and Best Production Design).
The film is set to premiere in Portuguese cinemas on November 27.
