The show “Bernardo & Manuel Paulo,” which celebrates the strength of musical heritage, the family as a point of departure and arrival, and the artistic dialogue between two unique identities that have shaped and continue to shape national culture, is set for April 12, according to the artists’ agency in a statement released today.
At the Coliseu dos Recreios, alongside the stage, Agir and Paulo de Carvalho will also share “stories, influences, and memories that span decades of songs.”
“The show presents an intimate and surprising format, built around significant moments of both their careers, from the classics that are part of the Portuguese collective imagination to new interpretations and arrangements created especially for this presentation,” the statement reads.
Born in Lisbon on May 15, 1947, Paulo de Carvalho was one of the founders of Sheiks, was part of Thilo’s Combo, joined Fluido before starting a solo career in the 1970s.
He has published over two dozen albums and is the author of about 300 songs, many of which have been performed by other artists.
The song “E Depois do Adeus,” written by José Niza and José Calvário, with which Paulo de Carvalho won the XI Festival RTP da Canção in 1974, served as the signal for the military movement that led to the collapse of the dictatorship and the ‘Carnation Revolution’ on April 25, 1974.
Agir is the artistic name of Bernardo Carvalho Costa, born in 1988.
He began recording his own music at the age of 12, and although he started his career in the early 2000s, he gained greater visibility after releasing the 2015 album “Leva-me a sério,” which includes the tracks “Tempo é dinheiro,” “Como ela é bela,” and “Parte-me o pescoço.”
In his most recent album “Cantar Carneiros,” released in 2022, Agir decided to put aside electronic music, opting for a fully acoustic style for the first time after some similar experiences, such as in the 2013 EP “Alma Gémea.”
Agir has also composed for other artists, including Mariza, Rita Guerra, Carolina Deslandes, Aurea, António Zambujo, Fernando Daniel, C4 Pedro, Jimmy P, Karetus, as well as his father, Paulo de Carvalho, and his sister Mafalda Sacchetti.
Tickets for the “Bernardo & Manuel Paulo” show, priced between 20 and 60 euros, are already on sale.
