
A 49-year-old man has been arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) after fatally stabbing his 17-year-old son amid an altercation involving the teenager and a neighbor in Montijo, Setúbal district.
“The Judiciary Police (PJ), through the Criminal Investigation Department of Setúbal, located, identified, and arrested a 49-year-old man, who is strongly suspected of committing a consummated homicide crime, which claimed the life of his 17-year-old son on April 28 in the municipality of Montijo,” read the statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto on Friday.
According to the authorities, the investigations “revealed the existence of a conflict between the victim and his neighbor, a 43-year-old man, related to drug use.”
The situation escalated into physical assaults between the two, and according to the report, upon realizing the assaults, “the victim’s father went to his residence, took two knives, and engaged in the conflict, eventually stabbing his son, who was taken in critical condition to Montijo Hospital”, where he later died.
“It was also found that the suspect also stabbed the wife of the 43-year-old man, but did not hit a vital area,” the PJ added, noting that the detainee will appear for a preliminary judicial interrogation on Friday to determine appropriate coercive measures.
