
The ruling, dated July 15, was partially upheld by the court, supporting the charges brought by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The defendant was sentenced to a total of 12 years and nine months in prison for 90 counts of rape.
In addition, he was given accessory penalties prohibiting him from assuming custody of minors or engaging in a profession involving regular contact with minors for 12 years.
Besides the prison sentence, the defendant must pay 40,000 euros in compensation to his daughter.
The panel of judges also decided to keep the defendant in pre-trial detention until the period for appealing the sentence expires.
The defendant was arrested by the Judiciary Police in Ílhavo in September 2024 on suspicion of aggravated rape.
At the time of the arrest, the Judiciary Police stated that the crimes were reported by the victim.
“The victim, the detainee’s daughter, recently turned 14 and, seizing more favorable conditions to report, informed her mother about the repeated criminal acts committed at home, prompting immediate police action,” stated the Judiciary Police.
According to the Judiciary, the defendant has a history indicative of compulsive sexual behavior towards female minors.
