A single sentence has resulted from the cumulative judgment of multiple offenses against the defendant, including 107 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of children, 20 counts of sexual abuse of dependent minors, and three counts of child pornography, one of which was aggravated.
The defendant was acquitted of only one count of aggravated sexual abuse of children.
Alongside the prison sentence, the defendant has been sentenced to additional penalties, which include a ban on holding positions involving regular contact with minors and a prohibition on being entrusted with minors. He is also stripped of parental responsibilities for a period of 20 years.
The defendant, originally from Brazil and residing in Águeda in the Aveiro district, was arrested in June 2024 and has been in preventive custody since then.
The prosecution, led by the Public Ministry (MP), stated that the sexual abuses began when the girls were 9 and 10 years old and continued for several years.
According to the MP, the defendant’s behavior ceased in May 2024 when the minors, then aged 13 and 14, revealed the events to their mother.
The incidents took place in the home where the defendant lived alone after separating from his partner, the children’s mother.
At the time of the arrest, the Judiciary Police noted that the sexual abuses allegedly occurred multiple times while the accused temporarily lived with the daughters, as he did not have custody.
“The man took advantage of the home’s privacy and used his authority over the minors resulting from the parental authority inherent in their family relationship,” stated the Judiciary.
The accusation also mentions that the defendant recorded some of the sexual acts on his mobile phone.
