Two men, both aged 35, were arrested in the act of drug trafficking last Wednesday in the municipality of Felgueiras. According to the National Republican Guard (GNR), the suspects were found to have more than 127,000 euros in their possession.
In a statement released to newsrooms on Friday, the authority explained that the arrests occurred “in the context of a drug trafficking investigation that lasted approximately two years.”
During the investigation, the military authorities “conducted operations that led to the identification and detention” of the two men.
The GNR also executed 13 search warrants—five in vehicles, five residential, and three in storage annexes. In total, 127,730 euros in cash were seized.
In addition to the money, authorities confiscated 548 doses of cocaine, 12 doses of cannabis, six doses of hashish, two pistols, 178 rounds of ammunition, a knuckle duster, two mobile phones, a tablet, and three precision scales.
One of the two detainees was made an official suspect, while the other will remain in custody at the Guard’s facilities until he appears for a preliminary judicial interrogation at the Penafiel Court for the application of coercive measures.
