Fenprof announces a strike for the new ModA exams for the 4th and 6th grades.

The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) has decided to issue a strike notice for the ModA exams, scheduled for late May and early June, during a meeting of its national secretariat.

“There is a strike notice for the ModA exams and all services related to them, including secretariat activities, supervision, and grading. Everything connected to these exams,” stated the Secretary-General of Fenprof at a press conference.

Mário Nogueira acknowledged that students might miss classes on exam days.

“In some cases, students don’t have classes. In other cases, particularly in the first cycle, (…) classes of teachers involved in the exams will be redirected and crowded into already full classes of other colleagues. This makes no sense, as there will be no proper classes, even though the children remain at school. It creates a confusing situation that is not normal for the development of activities,” he emphasized.

Nogueira described the ModA exams as being conducted “at the expense of teachers’ excessive workload” and considered them to be “senseless in what could be called system assessment tests.”

“In practice, they are a kind of generalized exams for all students. These exams will disrupt the schools’ work, creating instability in classrooms with students from other teachers involved in the exams. These exams have no sense,” he stressed.

The ModA exams will be conducted digitally from May 19 to June 6, and they will be graded by a team of evaluators from the Institute of Educational Assessment established for this purpose.
