At the 13th edition of the International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA), Portugal emerged victorious in nine of the twelve competing categories. The event was hosted by actress Daniela Ruah and television presenter Ricardo Farias, featuring performances by artists including Fernando Daniel, João Pedro Pais, Augusto Canário, Cremilda Medina, Jorge Silva, The Manic Boys and Girls Club, and Tito Paris, as confirmed by the event organizers.

The gala, which celebrated musicians of Portuguese descent, saw Fernando Daniel (Portugal) win in the ‘Music Video of the Year’ category, Marta Pereira da Costa (Portugal) in the ‘Instrumental’ category, and Vargas Monteiro (United States) in ‘World Music’.

Os Pêgas (Portugal) claimed awards in two categories: ‘Traditional’ and ‘Public Choice’, while Marco Rodrigues (Portugal) was recognized in the ‘Fado’ category.

Held at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island, USA, the award for ‘Rap/Hip-Hop/Dance’ went to Supa Squad (Portugal), Silva Lining Band (Portugal) won in the ‘Rock’ category, and Mackenzie Arromba (Canada) in ‘Pop’.

The group 4 Mens (Portugal) received the ‘Popular Music’ award, and ‘Song of the Year’ was awarded to Milhanas for the song ‘Algo Mais’.

Luizinho (United States) was the winner in the ‘New Talent’ category, earning him a cash prize of $2,000 (approximately €1,760).

Beyond the competitive categories, the IPMA also honored Portuguese musician Augusto Canário as a ‘Cultural Ambassador’, a distinction celebrating individuals who serve as global ambassadors of Portuguese heritage, promoting a deeper appreciation for the traditions and values defining their community, as explained by the organization.

The event also featured personalities such as comedian Mike Rita, Olympic swimmer Jayla Pina, and the host of ‘The Heart and Hustle of Portugal’ podcast, Tony Gonçalves.

The organization, which annually celebrates artists of Portuguese descent, announced that it will begin accepting entries this summer for next year’s awards.

Since 2013, the IPMA has recognized music produced by artists of Portuguese descent worldwide.

Approximately 10% of Rhode Island’s population is of Portuguese origin, making Portuguese one of the most spoken languages in this American state.
