
Fernando Paulouro das Neves passed away a day after presenting his latest book, “As Sombras do Combatente,” during an event at the Eugénio de Andrade Library in Fundão.
Born in 1947, Fernando Paulouro dedicated almost his entire career to the Jornal do Fundão, where he served as a journalist, editor-in-chief, and director, also taking part in various structures of the Journalists Syndicate and the Journalists’ Professional License Commission.
Fernando Paulouro das Neves also chaired the Teatro das Beiras and received numerous accolades, including the honorary membership of the Ibero-American Society of Applied Anthropology, the Gazeta Merit Award from the Journalists Club, and the Eduardo Lourenço Prize from the Iberian Studies Center.
In 2013, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the city of Fundão.
Next year, he was set to chair the Honorary Committee for the Celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Jornal do Fundão.
As an author, his publications included “A Guerra da Mina e os Mineiros da Panasqueira” (with Daniel Reis), “Os Fantasmas Não Fazem a Barba” (with Zé d’Almeida), “A Materna Casa da Poesia — Sobre Eugénio de Andrade”, “Fellini na Praça Velha”, “Brasil em Mim”, “O Informador e Outros Contos”, “Catorze Histórias Incríveis ou o Fabuloso Imaginário das Lendas da Beira Baixa” (with José Manuel Castanheira), and “O Tribunal das Almas.”
He also organized the anthology “António Paulouro: As Palavras e as Causas.”
