The ferry operating the Setúbal-Troia route, which ran aground on Wednesday upon leaving Setúbal, has been refloated and is now sailing, according to a representative from the National Maritime Authority (AMN), who corrected the number of passengers on board to eight, along with three vehicles.
“The refloating operations went well, and the ferry is now heading towards the port of Setúbal, where it is currently docking, it will be moored in five minutes,” stated Setúbal Port Captain, Commander Serrano Augusto.
“It returned because it was the nearest port, and it is navigating on its own,” clarified the commander.
The refloating operations for the ‘Rola do Mar’ ferry had to wait for the tide to turn and were successfully completed around 2:30 a.m., with the assistance of a tugboat and a smaller support boat, according to the AMN source.
The same source clarified that the number of passengers on board “was always eight passengers and not 30 as initially reported, along with three vehicles.”
“No one was evacuated for safety reasons,” the source added, also confirming that around 1:00 a.m., the small boat managed to approach the ferry and delivered “some light meals” to those on board.
The AMN representative did not have the number of crew members available at the moment.

A ferry operating the Setúbal-Troia route ran aground on Wednesday night upon departing Setúbal, with about 30 passengers, awaiting the tide’s rise to attempt refloating, advised a source from the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
